RCV for Hopkins Resolution Approved by City Council

At their meeting on Tuesday, August 18, the Hopkins City Council unanimously passed our proposed resolution to keep ranked-choice voting (RCV) moving forward. The vote follows the council’s decision on Aug. 3 to not place the  question on the ballot this year, despite a successful citizen-led petition drive to let voters decide whether to adopt RCV for local elections.  

The resolution commits the city to make passage of the RCV Local Option bill—the most effective path to resolving the cited technical issues—a top legislative priority; to advocate for Hennepin County and the Secretary of State to do the same; and to put RCV on the ballot or adopt it outright as early as 2027. While Hopkins voters will not be voting on RCV this year, our goal is to advance RCV in 2027 on the ballot or by vote of the city council.
